On April 25, 2018, China Broadcasting and Television Media Co., Ltd. and Finnish telecom operator Elisa had a signing ceremony in Shenzhen. Lü Jianjie, deputy managing director of China Broadcasting Network Co., Ltd. and chairman of China Broadcasting and Television Media, and Veli-Matti Mattila, chief executive officer of Elisa, signed a memorandum of cooperation to help Nordic TV, a video package with Nordic characteristics, enter the Chinese mainland.
Nordic TV is a comprehensive video package with Nordic characteristics that provides users with a window on Northern Europe and the world. It is the first product that contains videos about a specific region. It is an important step for China Broadcasting and Television Media to design its global layout of featured content and for operators to gain their competitive edge in content differentiation. Nordic TV covers films and TV dramas, variety shows, documentaries, sports shows and other exclusive resources that are created or favored in the Nordic countries, such as the popular suspense drama Maria Wern, the film Vehkleja (nominated for Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film), the fascinating scenery documentary Land of Finland, and breathtaking extreme sports show King of Cars.
According to the cooperation agreement, Elisa will provide content for the show Nordic TV, and China Broadcasting and Television Media is responsible for product operation and market development. The parties will channel resources and make joint efforts to help the promotion and branding of Nordic TV in the Chinese mainland. At present, China Broadcasting and Television Media is widely absorbing operators and deploying operations nationwide for Nordic TV, which will be officially rolled out in the national market in the second half of the year. In addition, the parties will focus on resource interflow and linkage of tourism, sports and other industries to incubate new offline business activities and promote crossover Nordic TV content integration, with a view to creating rich, practical, smooth, diverse user experience.
